What people say

Thank you for providing a well stocked cottage  so many thoughtful touches, such as the well-stocked book shelves, with books of local interest. The cottage is cosy and warm with the “crafty” artwork, beautiful cushions and painting.

Many thanks.

6th time here – but first time we’d seen the new kitchen/diner layout. I can’t lie, we miss the old characterful room but it’s cleverly done and we can see it’s advantages. We had amazing weather – 25 degrees or more today and sat on the beach for the first time.
Explored local paths more, bird-watching and blackberry picking. The car did not move during our short time here – wish it was longer. Many thanks again, it’s a special place.
PS : love the new painting additions – Oystercatcher & Redshank.

5th time here – came 2 years ago. Reassuring to see not much has changed – ginger cat still curled up next door, derelict caravan and ivy-hidden cowshed still out the back – great for the birds! Went to Dungeness RSPB reserve one day – wild and unusually little wind. Saw a very rare Eastern Common Tern – made the trip for my brother. Many thanks again of another stay in your lovely cottage.
PS – love your choice of pictures.

Thank you for a lovely week. It was great being able to come back with the children. We had fun exploring the nature reserve, Dungeness and riding on the trains. They also enjoyed the novelty of going out for fish & chips and only having to walk a short way down the road to the Inkerman’s. We’ll have to come back again when the children are bigger and bring bikes.

Our second time here and again lovely weather. Enjoyed our time on bikes (hired from Rye) across the nature reserve and along the front of the sea, then inland to Winchelsea.
Visited 2 museums in Canterbury – they are both well worth a visit – very interesting! Masonic one and the Chaucer museum.
Climbing up to the top of the church tower in Rye is a good experience – looking at the landscape all around.
A lovely day was spent wandering around the RSPB bird reserve at Dungeness too. We saw lots of birds which we would not see nearer to home!
Thank you for a warm, clean, very well equipped cottage.

October 2017

We’ve had a lovely relaxing few days. The cottage has given us a really comfortable base – especially having the log fire one cold evening.
The Art Festival has been a bonus – the musical talent was great considering that Rye is a relatively small town. We loved the town with the coffee shops and small retail places. The man who runs the model soldier shop was a great find as he spent time (without asking) repainting the blue on a pair of chipped glasses. Thanks for having us. We hope to return some time in the future.

October 2017

Thank you for a fabulous stay in your beautiful cottage.
We have had a great holiday, lots of wonderful cycle rides and good food. We really like The Ship at Winchelsea Beach. Fish & chips takeaway from the Inkerman Arms, and we had a great meal at the White Horse in Billington near Ham Street + a great cycle on endless country lanes with the sweetest blackberries we have ever tasted – masses of them.
We also enjoyed a couple of meals at William the Conquerer (food until 9 p.m. which was great). Visited the Avocet gallery – beautiful artwork here in Rye Harbour. You have been so kind and helpful to us, thank you for the milk, biscuits and flowers. We love your cosy cottage and the peace & beauty of Rye Harbour. Also thanks to your sister and brother-ink-law for helping us out.

4th time here! 3 nights in never long enough – a week would give more time to do some longer walks. Birdwatching-wise my brother is certain he identified a Citrine Wagtail in Rye Harbour which is rare and a lifer for him!
Went to RSPB Dungeness one day – a favourite but extremely windy.
Many thanks again for another lovely stay in your homely cottage and thanks to the cleaner – always underestimated.. .. ..
Good that there are still quite a few Housemartins & Sandmartins around, though not as many as we remember 4 years ago (our last visit). C20-30 this time.

Very windy at Dungeness RSPB Reserve but some lovely sunny mornings & evenings here. Masses of House Martins at back of house feeding- up ready for migrating south soon. Young Starlings on telegraph wires, occasionally flying down to eat elderberries on bush at back, keeping one eye on the ginger cat preening itself on neighbour’s fence! Many thanks again.

After M25 tail backs to be greeted with choccie cookies, milk, tea & flowers was the most warmly welcomed treat. Big thank you. Super comfy beds; great shower to blast off that collected sand from Camber Sands + superbly clean and well equipped cottage that we have ever had. All made this a great mini-break for the whole family. Great cycling everywhere. Finished holiday off with bit of birdwatching and kyaking. big thank you for a great base for our holiday – love to come back.

2nd time here, – for birdwatching. Dry and sunny every day but cold N.E. wind – needed woolly hats! Thrilled to see Barn Owl at dusk not far up the road with mouse/vole dangling from it’s claws! Great for walks and birds on your doorstep. Went again to Dungeness RSPB reserve – love the unusual landscape. Love the cottage too, so beautifully decorated. Many thanks again.

Well done Katy & Richard for making this a lovely home from home by the sea. Lots of thoughtful touches that make it a great place to rest and relax. Windy walks around the reserve, coupled with sunny days in Camber & Rye added to our enjoyment. The climb to the top of the church tower in Rye is a must. And we saved our pennies and splashed out on a meal in the Mermaid – v. posh & v. tasty!

Found cottage very clean, comfortable & welcoming. For those coming after us:
Inkerman pub serves good, honest food at reasonable prices.
Winchelsea “deli” does good coffee and food. New Inn Pub does not do snacks on Sundays. Village shop is really friendly.
Rye – Greengrocer; lovely man. Only place we found to buy fish (apart from a supermarket is in Rye on the way to Camber.
Hastings ; Great for fish! Also lovely old town and views from up above.
Camber – Beautiful beach. Check tide times if you want to paddle!
Brighton – Busy and cosmopolitan, good atmosphere.
Battle – Lovely little town. it will cost you £7-8 if you want to photograph the field of battle. There are quite a few similar free ones nearly!
Please contribute to Lifeboats!!!

We enjoyed having a look into your great variety of information about the region and I especially like the small stories about the early 20th century written by the people from this area. At home I read The Golden Bowl and now I know where the author lived for about 40 years.
My husband and I enjoyed the old city of Rye very much a we are always interested in architecture and history while travelling.

We enjoyed the 2 weeks of our holiday in your house very much.
Driving around up to Brighton, Knowle House & Camber Sands, we saw a lot of nice buildings and tourist attractions. We like both the sandy & stone beaches as well and spent a lot of time searching for nice stones.
Our new hobby lead us to Bodiam Castle where we took part in the Medieval Festival. It was great. We rode there by train from Tenterden. That was worth it too.
All in all we enjoyed the silence here, the town centre of Rye, our tours and spending time playing games in the evenings. Thank you for such a nice cottage.

Your comfortable, well-equipped cottage made our stay very enjoyable. The Middleton Press volume was most interesting to study in detail and to my pleasure it turned out that a further reprint was still available. Together with the nice late summer weather our holiday has been a great success. We are grateful to having been able to stay in your cottage.

(3rd visit) For once we had brilliant warm weather (yes, in November!). Walked miles along Camber sands, then yesterday we walked from Rye to Winchelsea and back, spending lunchtime at the New Inn by the church.
New stove works fine and gives loads of heat.
hope to be back soon – never get tired of this peaceful place.

Thank you for letting us stay in your cosy cottage – very clean and well equipped.
Rye and surrounds are lovely for walking; Camber Sands has an excellent beach for sunbathing and swimming.
We recommend the Inkerman Arms for pub food and Simply Italian! in Rye for excellent Italian cuisine. There is a lovely new vegetarian restaurant in Canterbury – The Hutch.

October 2011

What a delightful cottage – very comfortable & well equipped. The flowers are a lovely touch (Aestromeras are one of my favourites). Our short break was just what was needed to aid John’s continued recovery after a recent operation.
We discovered bird-watching and got very excited at not only seeing a redshank but being able to identify it. Perhaps we are on the way to becoming ‘proper’ birdwatchers! A point of interest – we borrowed binoculars, books on birds & flowers together with a pen & notebook (in rucksack) from the
Nature Reserve information Centre (Lime Kiln Cottage) leaving a small deposit.
One last point – we had forgotten what a star-filled sky looked like.

Thanks for providing us with a delightful cottage to enjoy the half-term holidays.
Rye Harbour has a wonderful atmosphere especially after visiting the William the Conqueror pub! Lovely fish & Chips from the Inkerman Arms, and in Rye itself. Good to visit friends and family in Eastbourne & Hastings. (Hurstmonceaux Science park recommended!) Big highlight watching a tornado on Tuesday while riding on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch railway (also highly recommended!) Thanks again – hope to see you soon.

Our yearly cottage break was another huge success due to a welcoming cottage which is cosy, warm and well equipped.
